Relatedness, Complexity and Regional Employment Growth in China ——A Smart Professional Analysis Framework CUI Zhaocai, ZHOU Xianghong, WANG Li (School of Economics and Management, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China) Abstract: Recently, Hidalgo has created a theoretical analysis framework of “smart specialization”, which aims to solve the “diversification dilemma” in the development of a country or a region.This paper, based on the employment data from the 1990, 2000 and 2010 national censuses, further expands the relativity and complexity measurement method of the theory, and embeds it into the analytical framework of “smart specialization”, and explores the contribution of relativity and complexity to regional employment growth.Results find that more complex economic activities lead to faster economic growth, and in the process of diversified economic activities combination, the diffusion rate of complex economic activities in complex regions is faster, and there are differences in potential smart specialization opportunities between eastern and central and western regions.The eastern region has more opportunities than the central and western regions. |
