Abstract: Based on panel data of 289 cities in China, this paper empirically tests the influence of imported products' structure on the capacity utilization rate and its influence mechanism. The results are as follows: From the perspective of the overall effect, the increase in the import share of capital goods and intermediate products has a significant promotion effect on the capacity utilization rate, and the increase in the import share of consumer goods has a significant inhibitory effect on the capacity utilization rate. From the perspective of the transmission path, the import of capital goods can improve the capacity utilization rate with the help of cost saving and technological innovation mechanism; the import of intermediate goods can promote the capacity utilization rate with the help of technological innovation mechanism; consumer goods can't promote the utilization rate of production through the above mechanism. Heterogeneity analysis finds that the promotion(inhibition)effect of increasing the import share of capital goods and intermediate goods(consumer goods)on the capacity utilization rate is more obvious in regions with higher capacity utilization rate and equipment technology content.
