Abstract:

Under the background of the deepening aging degree and the rapid development of the digital financial inclusion in China, the academic circle has paid little attention to the relationship between the population aging and the development of the digital financial inclusion. Therefore, this paper empirically tests the impact of the population aging on the development of the digital financial inclusion based on the provincial panel data from 2011 to 2018, hoping to provide an explanation from the perspective of the demographic structure for the development of the digital financial inclusion. The results show that the population aging significantly inhibits the development level of the digital financial inclusion. At the same time, the inhibitory effect is stronger in the regions with a high level of aging, the central and western regions and the regions with a large urban-rural income gap. Further mechanism tests show that the population aging inhibits the development of the digital financial inclusion by inhibiting the internet popularization and enhancing the risk aversion.
