城乡道路基础设施对收入差距的影响及空间溢出效应

The Impact of Urban-rural Road Infrastructure on Income Inequality and the Spatial Spillover Effects

摘要: “村村通公路”“县县有高速”“一小时交通圈”等深刻改变了城乡面貌,既有大量研究考察了打破地区间分割的交通基础设施的经济效应,相对较少关注到地区内城乡间交通可达性的变化。本文基于OpenStreetMap数据库,通过ArcGIS拾取计算了2014—2021年中国234个地级城市的城乡间道路综合密度,进而量化识别其对城乡收入差距的影响、作用机制及空间溢出效应。研究结果显示:第一,在样本观测期内,城乡间道路建设显著缩小了城乡收入差距,城乡道路综合密度每提高1个单位,能够解释城乡差距缩小幅度的5.31%;第二,基准的回归结论在系列稳健性检验和工具变量法等内生性处理后始终成立,且在东部地区、规模较大和北部湾城市群内的城市更为显著;第三,机制探究结果表明,城乡道路建设主要通过要素市场一体化机制和产业结构优化机制产生作用;第四,基于空间计量模型分析发现,城乡间道路建设对周边地区具有显著的正向溢出效应。在国内统一大市场建设的重要背景下,本文从交通基础设施层面为优化资源配置、塑造城市比较优势与促进高质量发展提供了有益的政策启示。

Abstract: Projects like“Village-to-Village Road Connectivity”, “County-to-County Expressway Access” and “One-Hour Traffic Circle” have profoundly transformed China's urban and rural landscapes. While extensive research has examined the economic effects of transport infrastructure in breaking down inter-regional barriers, relatively less attention has been paid to changes in intra-regional urban-rural accessibility. Based on the OpenStreetMap database, this paper uses ArcGIS to calculate the comprehensive urban-rural road density of 234 prefecture-level cities in China from 2014 to 2021, thereby quantifying its impact on the urban-rural income gap, its mechanism and the spatial spillover effects. The findings are as fouows: First during the observation period, urban-rural road construction significantly reduced the urban-rural income gap. Specifically, a one-unit increase in the comprehensive urban-rural road density can explain a 5.31% reduction in the urban-rural income gap. Secmd, The baseline regression results remain robust after a series of robustness checks and addressing endogeneity through instrumental variable methods. The effects are more pronounced in cities located in the eastern region, non-provincial capitals, larger cities, and those within the Beibu Gulf Urban Agglomeration. Third, Mechanism analysis indicates that urban-rural road construction primarily functions through factor market integration and industrial structure optimization. Forth, Spatial econometric model analysis reveals significant positive spillover effects on neighboring regions. Against the backdrop of building a unified domestic market, this paper provides valuable policy insights from a transportation perspective, aiming to optimize resource allocation, enhance urban comparative advantages, and promote high-quality development.
