Abstract: Against the backdrop of the global digital economy, data assets have become a new engine for China to seize the opportunities and achieve high-quality development. This paper takes the establishment of the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone as a proxy variable for digital economy policies and empirically examines the impact of digital economy policies on corporate data assetization. The findings reveal that digital economy policies significantly promote the development of corporate data assetization, primarily by improving the regional digital development environment and advancing corporate digital technology innovation, which provides a reliable implementation pathway for the micro-level execution of the national top-level strategy of “marketization of data factors”. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the promotional effect of digital economy policies is even stronger for non-state-owned enterprises, firms with executives possessing an information technology background, growth-oriented enterprises, as well as for industries with high competitiveness, capital-technology intensity, and high technology. Further analysis indicates that digital economy policies can enhance the data assetization process of firms in the same region and in the same industry through “peer effects”. The conclusions of this study not only contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of digital economy policies in the micro-level data assetization process of enterprises but also provide references for governments and businesses to accelerate the marketization of data factors in the era of the digital economy.
