Abstract: With the rapid development of digital technology, digital transformation has deeply integrated into the corporate production and operation processes and has become a key driving force for reorganizing resources, reshaping enterprise structures, and changing the pattern of market competition. This paper conducts an empirical analysis by using the panel data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2007 to 2022, and analyses comprehensively the impact and mechanism of enterprise digital transformation on the green total factor productivity of the upstream supplier enterprises. The results indicate that enterprise digital transformation significantly promotes the green total factor productivity of upstream supplier enterprises, generating an upstream supply chain green spillover effect. The mechanism is to reduce the transaction costs of upstream suppliers and stimulate their internal control levels. Heterogeneity tests show that the green spillover effect is more significant for both upstream and downstream enterprises located in the eastern region, and for non-technology-intensive downstream enterprises or technology-intensive upstream enterprises. For downstream enterprises of non-high-pollution industries or upstream enterprises of high-pollution industries, the green spillover effect is also very significant. The effect is pronounced in non-state-owned enterprises, and in large enterprises of both upstream and downstream chains. This paper expands the theoretical framework of enterprise green total factor productivity from the perspective of the supply chain and provides important theoretical support and practical guidance for policymakers in enhancing enterprise competitiveness, promoting economic green transformation, and achieving sustainable development.
